Everton manager David Moyes is hoping new skipper Joseph Yobo will lead the team effectively following the injury to Phil Neville.
"Joseph has to play with maturity and responsibility," said Moyes.
"When he does that, he is a top player.
"He is captain of Nigeria, so it something that he should be able to take.
"But in the Premier League, you have got to lead by example.
When asked about the leadership qualities of Neville, Moyes replied: "Whether it be training, the responsibility for the game or organising the players, he’s right there. That’s why I say he has been a terrific captain for Everton.
"Now we want to see if Joe can step forward and do that. Whether he does it permanently is something I will decide on."
